ABC primarily uses the euro as the presentation currency, and it does not control XYZ\u2019s operations. Therefore, XYZ uses its local currency, the Mexican Peso (MXN), as its functional currency. The current rate method is applicable in this case to translate XYZ\u2019s assets and liabilities from Mexican Pesos, the functional currency, to ABC\u2019s presentation currency, the euro. With the current rate method, most items on financial statements are translated at the current exchange rate.<\/p>\n<p>Since ACK is well integrated with the parent, it will use Canadian Dollars as its functional currency. As Pearson\u2019s presentation currency is similar to ACK\u2019s functional currency, it will use the temporal method to translate ACK\u2019s assets and liabilities. An entity&rsquo;s functional currency is <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bookstime.com\/articles\/accounting-foreign-currency-translation\">https:\/\/www.bookstime.com\/articles\/accounting-foreign-currency-translation<\/a> the currency of the primary economic environment in which that entity operates. The functional currency can be the dollar or a foreign currency depending on the facts. Foreign subsidiaries are generally required to keep accounting records in the currency of the country in which they are located.
